UFS101 - 2nd Vocabulary Entry

1.  Find the meaning of each of the words listed below.
2.  Create 1 sentence for each of the words.






Word : Poverty   
Meaning : To prevent someone from doing something that they want to do.
Example : The leaders were determined to thwart her.


Word : Destitution   
Meaning : A state without friends or money or prospects.
Example : Sally belongs to a very poor family living some times in destitution. 


Word : Inability   
Meaning : The fact of not being able to do something.
Example : He was frustrated by his inability to control the ball.


Word : Incapable   
Meaning : Completely lacking of skill or ability.
Example : The army was badly equipped, and incapable of offering serious resistance.


Word : Starvation   
Meaning : A situation in which a person or animal suffers or dies because they do not have enough to eat.
Example : Millions of people in Africa are threatened by starvation and disease each year.


Word : Deprivation   
Meaning : A situation in which you do not have something that you need or want.
Example : He was beginning to show symptoms of sleep deprivation.


Word : Dearth   
Meaning : A situation in which there is not enough of something.
Example : There's a dearth of young people in the village.


Word : Thwart   
Meaning : To prevent someone from doing something that they want to do.
Example : The leaders were determined to thwart her because of her humidity.


Word : Famine   
Meaning : A serious lack of food that continues for a long time and causes many people in a country to become ill or die.
Example : There is a severe in many parts of Africa.


Word : Drought   
Meaning : A long period without rain.
Example : Drought has affected many countries in Africa.
